Banksia Association Honours Scholarship

The Banksia Association maintains the University's connection with a special group of individuals who have made an impact on Murdoch University during its 33 year history. Banksia Association members include past external members of the University Senate, individuals who have been awarded Honorary Degrees, Emeritus Professors and others.

The goal of the Banksia Association is to further develop these connections with Murdoch to ensure that it continues to grow as a dynamic, modern University committed to quality in teaching and research, and to genuine equality in education.

The Banksia Association Honours Scholarship was established by Banksia Association members in late 2008 to encourage students to continue their education at Murdoch University by providing them with financial assistance during their Honours year.

Scholarship Value

The successful applicant for 2010 will receive $10,000 in two $5,000 payments, each following the HECS Census dates of Semester 1 and Semester 2 2010.

Please note students wishing to apply for/or are in receipt of a Centrelink Income Support Benefit are strongly recommended to contact Centrelink for advice regarding the scholarship's likely effect, if any, on any Centrelink Income Support Benefit application or current payment. Flexible scholarship payment options are available for the successful applicant.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the Banksia Foundation Honours Scholarship, applicants must:

  1. Be intending to enrol full-time in a course at Honours level at Murdoch University in 2010.
  2. Have a record of high achievement in previous studies and/or in professional work
  3. Provide a summary of intended Honours project
  4. Provide a written reference by one and no more than two referees qualified to comment on the applicant's academic progress and potential.
  5. Provide a personal statement of no more than one A4 page demonstrating why they should be the successful candidate and addressing how this scholarship will help to achieve their educational goals
  6. Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  7. Be available to address the Banksia Association members and accept the award at an evening event on 5 November 2009

Selection Criteria

Each of the following will be taken into consideration in the selection of the successful applicant:

  1. Academic history
  2. Appropriate references
  3. Personal statement
  4. Financial and/or personal hardship may be taken into consideration

The University reserves the right not to award the scholarship if no applicant is considered suitable
