The Men of the Trees/Shirley Fyfe Honours in Environmental Science Scholarship

The Men of the Trees/Shirley Fyfe Honours Scholarship in Environmental Science was established in 2002 to commemorate the work of the Men of the Trees organisation on the preservation of trees in Western Australia, and to honour the dedication of the late Shirley Fyfe to the aims and work of the organisation.

Mrs Fyfe was an early member of the Western Australian branch of MOTT, and volunteered for some 16 years in the MOTT nursery in Hazelmere, helping to cultivate seedlings and assisting with tree planting. The nursery has since provided tens of thousands of trees for reforestation projects with MOTT throughout Western Australia, and continues to supply trees to farmers, community groups, schools, landcare groups and individuals.

Applications are invited from students who intend to undertake an Honours project within the School of Environmental Science at Murdoch University. The project should focus on a contemporary environmental issue in the field of environmental use or preservation of Western Australia's native trees.

This scholarship is valued at $3,000 in 2009.
