The Thyne Reid Ecocean Scholarship

The Thyne Reid Foundation is a legacy of the fortune made by the Thyne Reid family through the various James Hardy enterprises. Mr Andrew Thyne Reid believed "that only a fool dies a rich man" and established significant charity trust funds in Sydney and Melbourne. The trusts have supported a great many causes in the fields of medicine, science, creative arts, education, social and community needs, and the environment.

The Thyne Reid Ecocean Scholarship was established in 2008 by the Thyne Reid Foundation to allow students to undertake Honours level research on Marine Conservation, with preference given to the study of whale shark conservation.

In 2009, two students will be awarded scholarships valued at $5,000 each to assist with the costs of their research. The Scholarship will be paid in two $2,000 instalments following the census dates of Semesters One and Two, with a final payment of $1,000 on the submission of the thesis.
