WA Mining Club Scholarship

The WA Mining Club, in conjunction with four industry co-sponsors, is offering four University Scholarships for the benefit of university students intending to work in the mining industry.

The West Australian Mining Club Scholarships are one of several contributions made to the mining industry by the Club every year. Each scholarship covers one of the mining areas of Environmental Engineering, Metallurgy, Mining Engineering and Geology.

The Scholarships Are valued at $10,000 payable in two $5,000 instalments over two years. The second instalment will be conditional upon the student demonstrating satisfactory academic performance and continued enrolment in a mining related undergraduate course at Murdoch.

Students will be given the opportunity to take advantage of a mentoring program provided by senior industry participants in their chosen discipline, and also offered the opportunity of appropriate vacation employment through membership of the WA Mining Club.

Eligibility Criteria

Students should:

• Be able to demonstrate a firm commitment to work "at a professional level in a technical discipline within the mining industry";
• Be in their second year or over, although consideration may be given to students in their first year;
• Provide the names of referees

Special consideration may be given to students in hardship.

The Scholarship will not be available to current holders of a similar scholarship or bursary.

Selection Criteria

The following will be taken into consideration by the Education Committee of the WA Mining Club:

• Academic and/or work record
• Personal circumstances
• Commitment to the student's chosen career
• Potential to achieve a position of leadership in, or significant contribution to, the mining industry

Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an interview with the Education Committee of the WA Mining Club.
